  2. Dear ARRL Information Service user:

  4. The way we have set up our server, incoming messages for information
  5. are sent to info@arrl.org.  The outgoing response comes from 
  6. info-serv@arrl.org.  As warned in our HELP file, if you use the reply 
  7. function of your mailer to reply to the index list, it does not get sent
  8. to the mail server, but gets sent to info-serv@arrl.org, which gets 
  9. redirected to a mailbox on my machine.

  11. The system was set up this way so that failed mail would not loop 
  12. endlessly, annoying system administrators. :-). 
  13.  
  14. A few of the more common address errors get directed this way, too 
  15. (such as info-server@arrl.org, etc.)
  16.  
  17. Please re-try your request, sending it to info@arrl.org. That is the
  18. ONLY address that works to access the server. :-)

  26. HELP on using the ARRL's Automated Information Server (info@arrl.org)
  27.  
  28.    INFO is a service of ARRL HQ.  To use it, mail messages to:
  29.  
  30.    info@arrl.org
  31.  
  32. Each line of the message should contain a single command as shown 
  33. below.  You may place as many commands in a message as you want.  
  34. Each file you request will be sent to you in a separate message. 
  35. Only ASCII text files are supported at present.
  36.  
  37. Note to users with FTP capability:  All of these files are also 
  38. available by anonymous ftp to oak.oakland.edu in the 
  39. pub/hamradio/arrl/infoserver area.
  40.  
  41. Valid INFO email commands:
  42.  
  43. help             Sends this help file
  44.  
  45. index            Sends an index of the files available from INFO
  46.  
  47. reply <address>  Sends the response to the specified address. Put this
  48.                  at the BEGINNING of your message if your From: address
  49.                  is not a valid Internet address.
  50.  
  51. send <FILENAME>  Sends "FILENAME" example: send PROSPECT.TXT
  52.  
  53. quit             Terminates the transaction (use this if you have
  54.                  a signature or other text at the end of the message.)
  55.  
  56. Note: your message will *not* be read by a human!  Do not include any
  57. requests or questions except by way of the above commands.  Retrieve
  58. the "USERS.TXT" file for a list of email addresses of ARRL HQ people.

  60. DO *NOT* USE YOUR MAILER'S "REPLY" FUNCTION TO SEND YOUR NEXT REQUEST!
  61. This message is from info-serv@arrl.org.  Generate a new message 
  62. addressed to info@arrl.org instead.  We set it up this way to 
  63. prevent failed mail from looping endlessly, annoying system
  64. administrators.  Mail sent back to info-serv@arrl.org ends up in 
  65. the bit bucket.

  67. Your From: field or Reply-to: field in your header should contain a valid
  68. Internet address, including full domain name.  If your From: field 
  69. does not contain a valid Internet address, the answer will not reach 
  70. you.  However, we have recently added a reply function as a server 
  71. command.  If needed, the REPLY command should be the first command in
  72. your message.

  76. reply mailaddr
  77.  
  78. Where mailaddr is a valid Internet mail address (either user@domain
  79. or bang address accepted.)  An invalid address generates an error.  
  80. A wrong address results in non-delivery of your response.
  81.  
  82. The address given in the reply command is the address to which all
  83. subsequent requests in the message will be sent. 
  84.  
  85. If an error message is generated, it will be sent to the last reply
  86. address given.
  87.
